“Today, Brazil has copied the same model as India’s UPI and is spreading it in Latin America. We offer UPI to other nations like Oman, Nepal, Malaysia and the UK. We are also doing it for all the Commonwealth Nations. We are also rolling out Aadhaar in around 20 countries, including Ethiopia and the Philippines. Soon, Entity Locker will take over DigiLocker because there will be more financial benefits like access to registration, certificates, tax returns, and bank statements with the help of e-sign. This is an example of a fantastic DPI which the government has made,” said Sanket Bhondve, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, during a session at the 19th India Digital Summit (IDS) today.

The two-day IDS 2025 is being organized by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, Supported by Digital India, Skill India and Make in India.

Continuing with India’s DPI success Shri Bhondve added, “India has done wonders in the digital world, including digital solutions, cyber security, R&D projects, data centres, projects like Diksha, and the academic bank of credits. India has saved more than $27 billion with the help of DPI by plugging the leakages and loopholes.”

“India has developed an AI mission of Rs 11,500 crore, with the India AI data set platform as one of its main components. This will help solve issues of last-mile service delivery, financial inequality, and limited access to quality healthcare, education, and even agriculture. Currently, we have around 4 lakh data sets and around three lakh APIs. We can use it to develop new things through partnerships with the industry and private players. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 is an act that protects your data, keeps your data in India, in the Indian servers, and prevents it from going abroad. We have the sovereign control over it,” Shri Bhodve further said.
