Tamil Nadu Budget 2026: AI is No Longer the Future – It is the Foundation of Education

Statement by Mr. Ramana Prasad, Founder & Chairman, Meritus AI

The Tamil Nadu Government’s first Budget under the new administration sends a strong message that the future of education lies in technology, innovation, and Artificial Intelligence. The emphasis on AI-enabled learning, robotics, digital access through free laptops, and industry-aligned skilling demonstrates a forward-looking vision to prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow.

AI should not be viewed as a standalone subject but as a foundational skill integrated across school and higher education. By introducing AI and robotics into the curriculum and expanding digital infrastructure, Tamil Nadu has taken a significant step toward building a globally competitive talent ecosystem.

The next phase should focus on empowering teachers with AI competencies, establishing AI and STEM innovation labs in schools, and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry. When students gain access to experiential learning, problem-solving, and emerging technologies from an early age, they become innovators rather than mere users of technology.

Tamil Nadu has always been a leader in education reforms. With this budget, the State has the opportunity to become India’s benchmark for AI-powered education and future-ready learning. The vision is clear—equip every learner with the skills, mindset, and confidence to thrive in an AI-driven world.
