Esri India launches Carbon Footprint Awareness App

Esri India, a leading Geographic Information System (GIS) solutions provider, announced the launch of an app in Hindi and English to enhance awareness about carbon footprint at an individual level. ‘Carbon Jagruk’ or ‘CarbonAware’ app enables citizens to estimate and reduce their carbon footprint. The application is extremely simple to use. It requires no login or download and collects no personal information of the user.

The announcement is part of Esri India’s endeavor to promote a sustainable lifestyle through carbon-conscious behavior and choices. This app will help in estimating the causes of a higher carbon footprint at the community level. Esri India plans to share this data with local administrations so that they can take measures to educate citizens.

Every time we travel by car, take a flight, or use an electrical appliance we leave a trail of gases that build up in the atmosphere and contribute to global warming. These emissions are forcing our climate to change for the worse. The CarbonAware App is an initiative by Esri India to help each one of us to understand how much carbon footprint we are creating at an individual level and what we can do to reduce it.

According to Agendra Kumar, MD, Esri India, “In an effort to stave off the worst effects of climate change such as drought, flooding, and loss of species, bringing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to ‘net zero’ by 2070 is the way to go for us as a nation. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi introduced the terms ‘LIFE’ – Lifestyle for Environment and ‘Pro Planet People’ to make people think and be more environment-conscious. Esri India’s Carbon Aware App is a step in our sustainability journey, aimed at helping people in thinking, curbing and regulating their carbon footprint. It will help people move towards a more eco-conscious, sustainable way of living, through a carbon-conscious lifestyle. Offsets are a useful tool to boost investment in protecting nature while the global economy moves to net zero.”

To appreciate the user’s efforts in taking part in this campaign and understand their carbon footprint, the app also gives the option to download a certificate at the end. To limit global warming to 1.5 degree C, which was the central goal of the Paris Agreement, a recent IPCC report has insisted that global greenhouse gas emissions would have to be reduced by 43 percent by 2030. Esri India’s CarbonAware App is a concrete step towards raising awareness about our carbon footprint and making each one of us understand how we can contribute towards India’s commitment to be ‘Net-Zero’ by 2070.
