MeitY, Intel hold knowledge session on Deep Learning

National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India (GOI), Intel, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) recently held its seventh session, on ‘Demystifying Deep Learning’, under the Digital India Dialogues Building Capacities. This session was attended  by 95+ government officials, from 10+ ministries.

The participation of the Intel experts, under the company’s Digital Readiness portfolio, brings relevant industry experience and use case studies to these webinars aimed at policy makers. Intel’s Digital Readiness for Leaders program aims to leverage AI-led expertise by engaging government officials and leaders in immersive workshops led by subject matter experts to help them grasp the practical application of emerging technologies.

The session provided an insight into the workings of Deep Learning (DL) and how its application, and integration can play a key role in creating a framework to help improve services offered to the citizens.

Abhishek Singh, President & CEO NeGD, CEO MyGov, MD & CEO Digital India Corporation, Ministry of Electronics and IT, Government of India said, “These sessions are not only leading to capacity building, but also more and more adoption of technology-based solutions in collaboration with industry experts and ecosystem partners, walking the participants through relevant use-cases and discussing scalable solutions.”

Omesh Tickoo, Principal Engineer and Research Manager, Intel Labs, USA, discussed the rapid growth of machine learning (ML) and deep learning technologies helping make machines more ‘humanized’. He said, “In the coming times, Deep Learning Networks will help us understand computer memory better. DL will be democratized further to become a standard part of a developer’s toolkit.”

Vahan Martirosyan, Data Science Team Lead, UNDP Armenia National SDG Innovation Lab demonstrated how UNDP & Government of Armenia have come together to enable Armenia’s development potential by deploying DL in AI for Mulberry, an algorithm created to help improve the correspondence between citizens and the government. He also quoted various other arenas where DL has been deployed to improve understanding and judiciously use data available.

The participants also experienced an interactive, hands-on AI exercise through a gaming interface during the workshop. In the coming months, the series will cover various other themes under emerging technologies, such as Blockchain & IoT, with a focus on sector-specific areas, international and domestic use cases, and best practice examples.
