- Awarded Letter of Acceptance by Northeast Frontier Railway for drone-based assessment of 25 kV OHE infrastructure
- Scope includes visual, thermal and geometrical inspection under the Lumding Division
New Delhi, 05th August 2026: Matrix Geo Solutions Limited, a geospatial technology and engineering consultancy, has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from Northeast Frontier Railway for undertaking a Drone-Based Visual, Thermal and Geometrical Inspection of 25 kV Overhead Equipment (OHE) under the Lumding Division.
The project involves the deployment of drone technology to conduct visual, thermal and geometrical inspections of railway overhead electrification infrastructure. The inspection will generate high-resolution aerial and thermal data to support the assessment of OHE assets, enabling informed maintenance planning and infrastructure monitoring.
Overhead Equipment (OHE) forms the backbone of electrified railway operations, making its periodic inspection critical for maintaining network reliability, operational continuity and passenger safety. Unlike conventional inspection methods, drone-enabled surveys combine aerial imaging, thermal analytics, geospatial processing and engineering assessment to evaluate infrastructure efficiently while minimizing disruption to railway operations.
Assignments of this nature are technically specialized and require the integration of drone operations, geospatial intelligence and engineering inspection under prescribed railway operational and safety protocols. Companies undertaking such projects are required to demonstrate the necessary technical qualifications, operational capability and execution readiness to deliver inspection outputs in accordance with the railway authority’s requirements.
Speaking on the project win, Amit Sharma, Whole Time Director, Matrix Geo Solutions Limited, said, “The inspection of railway overhead electrification infrastructure calls for the integration of advanced drone technology, engineering expertise and geospatial intelligence. We are pleased to have been entrusted with this assignment by Northeast Frontier Railway. Projects of this nature require careful planning, technical precision and disciplined execution while working within operational railway environments. Our focus will be on completing the assignment within the prescribed timeline and delivering reliable inspection data that supports infrastructure assessment and maintenance planning.”
The project adds to Matrix Geo Solutions’ portfolio of railway infrastructure assignments. The use of drone and geospatial technologies continues to expand across the infrastructure sector as project owners increasingly adopt data-driven approaches for asset inspection, condition assessment and lifecycle management.
This development follows Matrix Geo’s project execution during Q1 FY27, during which the company secured new orders worth approximately ₹6.41 crore across the water, railways, mining, power and infrastructure sectors.
