Samsung Electronics is expecting its upcoming smartphone range to garner sales of $4 billion in India in the year 2019.
The South Korean headquartered company has announced to roll out one smartphone every month in its Galaxy A series starting March till June. The phones will be targeted at millennials and fall in the price range of INR 10,000 to INR 50,000.
“This is going to be really big … We’re talking about (sales) in the range of $4 billion in this year, in terms of just the Galaxy A series,” said Singh.
The company’s smartphone sales in India touched INR 37,350 crore in the year-end till March 2018.
‘’India, the world’s second-biggest mobile phone market, will be among the first few geographies where new A series phones, comprising more than four devices, will be launched. I can assure you the Galaxy A series has very strong input coming in from this team,” added Singh.
With India housing more than a billion wireless subscribers, the country ranks in the list of top lucrative markets for smartphone vendors.
Samsung manufactures its phone locally in India with a market share of 24 per cent in India trailing Xiaomi which boasts of a 28 per cent market share in the country, as per Counterpoint Research.
Last year Samsung inaugurated the world’s biggest mobile manufacturing facility in the city of Noida along with its largest mobile phone store in Bengaluru.
