BlackBerry Expands Global Cybersecurity Software Development to India

BlackBerry Limited today announced it is expanding its global software development capability with a new world-class cybersecurity hub in India, with facilities dually located in Bengaluru and Noida (New Delhi). This news follows the company’s April 2023 reveal of a ‘BlackBerry IoT Center of Excellence’ in Hyderabad, dedicated to embedded software for mission critical IoT industries.

Across multiple locations, BlackBerry is adding local expertise to its global software and services teams and helping to stop cyberattacks with Cylance® AI, in India and the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. Cylance AI is BlackBerry’s next-gen cybersecurity software, the technology that pioneered the AI cybersecurity industry. Now in its seventh generation, it boasts the industry’s largest malware database, trained on billions of diverse threat data sets over several years of real-world operation.

India’s best and brightest minds in AI-led cybersecurity, can register to attend a BlackBerry Careers Day at the Leela Palace Bengaluru on July 29. By the end of 2023, BlackBerry’s India cybersecurity hub plans to have more than 100 employees specializing in areas such Generative AI and Machine Learning (ML), data science and analytics, threat intelligence, networks, Unified Endpoint Management (UEM), cloud and software development.

Shishir Singh, Chief Technology Officer, BlackBerry Cybersecurity says, “As a world leader in cybersecurity innovation, BlackBerry handles the world’s most advanced and complex threats and protects customers around the clock, so we understand the critical role of AI in both closing the cyber-skills gap and in staying ahead of cyber threat actors. By expanding BlackBerry’s global software and services footprint to India, we will enhance support for our customers and partners in APAC and Japan, while nurturing the next generation of cyber-defenders who want to upskill in AI and Machine Learning.”

This new regional expansion plan will augment BlackBerry’s existing software and services teams based in Canada, the United States and Europe. It also enhances regional access to the company’s leading cybersecurity software and services, which in addition to Cylance AI, includes 24×7 cyber threat monitoring and mitigation, endpoint management to help protect and enable the digital workplace, and threat researchers providing real-time intelligence.

Since January 2023, BlackBerry’s Global Threat Intelligence has consistently shown that India is among the world’s top ten countries most targeted by cyber attackers, along with Australia, Japan, and Singapore.  BlackBerry’s data-driven threat intelligence has added fuel to the company’s strategy to boost innovation and support for customers across the APAC region by expanding its global software and services footprint with more local resources.
