Facebook breakdown stretched for more than 24 hours before the social media giant returning back to normal late Thursday. Many users of Facebook along with its other platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger complained of problems related to posting content on them.

Facebook utilised Twitter to give an explanation regarding the unexpected breakdown.

“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible,” said Facebook on Twitter.

“We’re focused on working to resolve the issue as soon as possible but can confirm that the issue is not related to a DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack.” added the social media giant.

DDoS is a denial-of-service attack wherein hackers use a number of hacked networks to float huge requests to a system resulting in failure of servers. This further results in network clogging and disruption of regular traffic.

India is the biggest market for Facebook with about 300 million active users as Statista, an online business intelligence service.

“Can we consider this as a calamity? Something this big can fail. Really interested to know that companies with such good tech architecture, where it all went wrong,” wrote a Twitter user.
