Bharti Airtel India’s Largest telecom service provider announced the launch of its Voice over LTE ( VoLTE) services in Mumbai. Bharti Airtel becomes the second telecom operator in India after Reliance Jio to offer such functionality to its subscribers i.e. a 4G LTE-enabled technology that significantly improves the clarity of voice calls using Internet data.
To get access of Airtel VoLTE services one need to have a 4G enabled handset and an Airtel 4G SIM. Users can call any mobile, landline network using Airtel VoLTE. There will be no additional data charges for VoLTE and the billing will be done as per as the existing plan & benefits. Airtel said the VoLTE feature is now live for customers on its network in Mumbai.
VoLTE offering which only work for 4G network . Airtel said VoLTE calls are made to its respective network coverage and as per as non-availability of 4G the network will automatically be switched to 3G or 2G network depending upon the network in that area .It also give benefits to the the users as they can continue their data usage as per 4G speed while the call is in progress.
The telecom operator has over 260 million subscribers in the country. Customers who have enrolled themselves for 4G SIM card from Airtel in Mumbai – and have a 4G LTE-enabled smartphone – will be able to VoLTE calls to their friends on landlines and mobile phones, it said.
Abhay Savargaonkar, Director – Networks, Bharti Airtel said in a press statement. ” In upcoming months, we will rapidly accelerate the deployment of VoLTE to cover all key geographies to bring HD quality calling to our customers Airtel has built a world-class 4G network across India and with the VoLTE compatible device ecosystem beginning to mature, we believe it’s the right time to enable VoLTE calling as part of our service . We keenly look forward to our device partners enabling Airtel VoLTE on their smartphones”.
Here’s how you get Airtel VoLTE in your 4G enabled smartphone:
1. Check mobile device compatibility here . Airtel has tested and certified popular device models for VoLTE compatibility. More models will keep getting added to this list.
2. Upgrade the mobile device’s operating software to the latest version that supports VoLTE. This update is provided by the handset manufacturer.
3. Ensure the device has a Airtel 4G SIM. Customers can upgrade to the 4G SIM by visiting the nearest Airtel store.
