Women professionals in India earn about 19 per cent less as compared to their male counterparts. As per Monster Salary Index survey which was released on Thursday, the gender pay gap has only slumped by 1 per cent in the year 2019.
The latest data published by online recruitment and career solutions provider reflects that the gender pay gap in the country at present stands at 19 per cent wherein male professionals earn INR 242.49 as compared to INR 196.3 for women.
“The narrowing of the gender pay gap by just one per cent is not just a cause for concern, but a reminder to genuinely introspect if we are doing enough,” says Abhijeet Mukherjee, CEO, Monster.com, APAC & Gulf.
“It becomes pivotal to galvanize forces across corporates and industries to work towards gender pay parity,” adds Mukherjee.
The data also reflects that the difference in gender pay is soaring with a higher skill level. The gap Soares with experience and is most at 15 per cent in favour of male professionals when it comes to talents with more than 10 years of experience.
About 71 per cent of men and 66 per cent of women are of the opinion that bridging the gender pay gap should be the top priority for organisations, says a survey conducted by Monster.com.
The maximum number of participants in the survey were from Mumbai at 24 per cent, followed by the city of Bengaluru(23%) and Delhi NCR(18%). Non-metros accounted for 29 per cent of respondents.
