Beyond encouraging economic growth, the ICT industry is helping to achieve social sustainability by improving the way through which societies and governments provide education, healthcare, and services to its citizens. Additionally, the ICT industry is changing the way people interact with each other, creating longer-term and largely positive changes in a variety of areas.
During and after the pandemic, ICT has helped the entire nation for high end connectivity with each other since the nation was following isolation for a long time phase. We have seen huge revolutionary changes in education sector impacted by ICT because students are now being used to learning on digital platforms. Moreover through developed usage of it, students are being able to access the education across the world at much lesser cost. After education sector, remarkable effect of ICT is seen on telecommunication sector since people are adopting 5G technology for faster communication. The use of ICT for health (e-health) has the potential to transform healthcare by efficiently connecting people and improving information sharing. Developing country like India has potential to adopt e – health care in coming years.
Mr. Dheeraj Puri, Co Chair, North Region Committee (ICC) said that “The revolution in the information and communication sector is making the world united. In today‘s world information and communication technology (ICT) is a key parameter for a country’s socio economic development, especially for a developing country like us. India is contributing 13% to the country’s GDP. With the concept of globalization, the cross country transfer of technology with respect to equipment and even manpower has now days become much easier. ICT adoption, digitalization and automation provide formidable new opportunities in terms of increased efficiency and productivity, the creation of new services and occupations and increased connectivity across the nation. Market reports shows that countries have started to invest in ICT because the sector can have a substantial positive impact on social and economic sustainability since such investment will lead to annual GDP growth by 0.6% to 0.7% on average, on an annual basis, for each increase of 10% in household penetration”.
Referring to the current situation COVID has accelerated digital connectivity trend and influenced a technology driven market for future. Rapid urbanization of 21st century and COVID-19 pandemic has hugely impacted India’s digital transformation. The Indian companies are realigning their IT strategies, managing operational costs, automating processes, and implementing new systems to improve efficiency leading to a technology rich lifestyle for the citizens of the country. In this era of ICT revolution IoT is a thing to be highlighted. IoT is disrupting both the industrial sectors and the consumer sectors by increasing use of sensors, cloud, robotics, centralized tracking, quality inspection etc. and thereby forming an ecosystem of smart manufacturing. Moreover this also ensures low cost, enhanced revenue, enhanced safety, security and quality.
